Hi everyone

We're arriving in Christchurch on 15th August and haven't even started looking at accommodation yet. Can anyone recommend somewhere warm and friendly but probably not too close to the city centre. We'll probably want at least a couple of weeks whilst we have a further look at areas to lay down roots.

It must be warm though!!

Thanks

try www.ashleighcourtmotel.co.nz, we stayed with them for two weeks after we emgirated from uk, during cold spell in november, they have wall heater in the lounge, enough to warm whole place! They are not in city centre but near, riccarton areas. They are very friendly and very helpful! very expert in knowledge of areas and rental side. Also you can hire car from them, just let them know, so they can reserve a car for you:nice1

Thanks so much for the offer Vic, it's really kind, but we do have the books and could do this ourselves. We were after more of a personal recommendation as there are so many we could potentially choose from, it's nice to hear from others if they've actually stayed somewhere.

Sophia and Kat, thanks for your info. Both look good but I definitely like the look of the Sumner rental and will investigate further! Underfloor heating - fantastic!

We stayed at the Raceway Motel in Addington for five weeks. It was clean and comfortable and the owners were very friendly and helpful. In fact they did our washing for us every week and dried it. The only negative was that they didn't have wireless internet connection for the laptop but they let us use their computer. I certainly would recommend it

Good luck,

Thanks all for the updates, we did in fact manage to book somewhere but I have just cancelled it as OH has just landed a job in Nelson. Yippeeeee! - now we need recommendations for Nelson!

I can't offer any suggestions for Nelson, unfortunately, much as I wish I were in your position now! Nelson's our dream too, but Christchurch it shall be for a little while at least. Congrats again on the better offer!!

Does anyone know anything about this place?
