There is a very interesting event in Auckland the weekend of July 6 to 8th, at the ASB showgrounds in Greenlane. Its called Atamira-Maori in the City and its a Creative Maori Arts Expo. There are a huge variety of events going on , all free!:clap , fashion, film, art, food stalls, music, live shows, cultural performances(kids and adults) , etc etc.

Its kind of like Pasifika, but showcasing Maori arts and creativity rather than Pacific Islanders.

Its a good chance to learn about Maori culture in a friendly setting, lots of stuff for the kids as well, they have a website:

I know a woman who is making and selling things woven from NZ flax, baskets, purses, little things, etc. in the crafts section of this event.

There is a "Meet Up" file of threads in the Emigrate NZ question. I think there is a Girlies Meet up in Auckland very soon, or maybe just happened, you can check there.

Just a quick reminder that this event is happening this week. they have pou (pole as in like a totem pole) flax weaving and a play area for kids, plus lots of other stuff for mum and dad too.
