Hi everybody,

only just found out about this forum, my parents 'lockstock' have been chatting for a while. I'm in my 3rd year of training to be a midwife in the UK and planning to emigrate with my parents early 2008. We are planning to move to the North Island somewhere but not sure where yet. Does anybody have any information on becoming a midwife with a European Registration in NZ? Does the qualification transfer directly? And also, what is the job situation out there? I am 20 and hoping to meet other new people as well so if you've got any tips for me or just want to chat then give me a shout.

Thanks, Rachel

Sorry I can't help with the registration question, but welcome to the forum! I've seen at least a few other 20-somethings around here, so I hope you'll be able to find some new people :) I'm 24 and work in book design - I enjoy most sports and I also write. Will be moving to the South Island in October, but I'm free to chat most days around this time if you're interested.

Cheers!

I have been allocted a student midwife to me, to learn about NZ maternity care as part of her course. She is working along with my homebirth midwife and study my maternity care. I have finally met her during last check up and due to see her on this wednesday for "chat" as she turned out to be british ex-pat, emigrated to NZ three years ago and live just down the road from my house :clap
If you want me to, I can ask her to contact you about midwife training in NZ etc...

Hi & Welcome to the forum,

I am a English trained direct entry midwife.... I have been working out here since March and am thoroughly enjoying it - the provision of midwifery care is very different here - but a great experience!!

I am sure any of the district health boards will snap you up!! Good Luck.

Alison:)
