Hi everyone,
Please could anyone adivse if me and my girlfriend could go over the NZ on a work visa. Unfortunately we have only got 100 points on the EOI so were thinking of not submitting it until we went over and found a job offer. Our jobs are not on the skilled shortage list though. Would this be possible by going down the work visa route? If so does anyone know how to apply? I understand there is also a working holiday route but we are currently unsure if this is the best option.
Any info would be great! :)
Thanks
Tony

If your are under 30, you can get a Working Holiday Visa without a job offer, and change it to a work permit after you land a job. If you stayed with the WHV, though, I believe you can only work the same job for 3 months at a time.

As you're from the UK there is no 3 month limitation on working for one employer under the WHV. To get a work visa you need a job offer from an employer.
I thought I read on another thread that you were a project manager in telecoms. They are definitely in high demand over here, so you shouldn't experience too much problem finding work. Check out Seek for job adverts if you haven't already.

Also if your in the 30-35 age range like myself you will be too old for the WHV, But an IEP visa with Bunac is same visa virtually but upper range of 35 :nice1

You can go out on a holiday visa, look for work and if you get a job, then apply for a work visa.
The visa application can take a few weeks though.

We are living in NZ on a LTBV, and our daughter (28) wants to come over on a WHV and convert that once here, assuming she likes it of course.
Does anyone know how long it takes for a WHV to be processed as she is about to apply in London. She tells us she is applying for a 2 year WHV, damn we thought we had escaped her!!!!!

Hi
From the research we've done ourselves, it can take anything from a week to 3 weeks to receive - once it is received it has to be used within a year. If she's coming over on a 2 year WHV she will need to get all the medical checks done before she leaves the country, but as far as i'm aware if she came over on a 1 year WHV she wouldn't need to get all the medical checks done (which I understand can be costly) - this can then be extended if needed when she's over there.
Thanks
Kat

We got a 1 year WHV in the spot at NZ House in London. Had to wait for about 30 minutes then it took only 10 minutes. Just make sure you have all the paperwork they want to see.
For the 2 year, you'll need medicals. However, I believe it's now possible to travel on a 1 year and extend it while in NZ.
You can apply for a WHV up to the age of 30. You only have to be 30 at the time it's granted and you have 1 year to enter the country - my OH was already 30 by the time we arrived but this is allowed.
