Have already spoken to NZ Sky that our UK Sky boxes wont work in NZ, has anyone heard if these boxes can be reprogrammed to recieve NZ Sky?

Cheers

Hi guys,

We decided to have the basic sky package fitted last wk, and we brought our much loved sky+ box (oh how i miss sky+) anyway the guy who came and stayed for 2hrs cuppa and chat etc etc, said no we couldnt use it :( Also just for info if u get sky over here u only ever hire the digibox!!! That said they will replace it if anything happens to it (more likely for us with kids) The basic sky box is $99 installation at present but they do have promotions, and the sky now (sky+) is $599!!! thats a bit steep when ur livin on $$$$$$$

Hope that helps :)

Sorry, can't answer your question but thought some info might help?

From Sky TVs website:
The British Sky box is not compatible with the NZ SKY service and cannot be used here.

Also just a few things to bear in mind: your television will need to be PAL compatible and you will only be able to view the free to air channels through our SKY digital service as we transmit on a different frequency in New Zealand; you vcr will only play pre recorded tapes for the same reason and any DVD's will need to be multi zones as we are classed as zone 4.

It does raise some interesting points:
1. If you are going to connect via the Aerial socket then you will need a UK compatible TV (of course you would use SCART).
2. "you will only be able to view the free to air channels" so it sounds like it might work partly.

A few more points of interest for anyone who doesn't know
1. In NZ it's called My Sky
2. In UK it's called Sky+, the NZ version is actually the equivalent to Sky80+
3. In NZ it's a one off cost of $599 to 'rent' the box with no additionaly cost for subscription (even if on basic package only). If it goes wrong then it gets replaced (or so I believe)
4. In UK you buy the box and pay £10 per month for subscription (fee waived if you subscribe to premium packages). You either need insurance or buy a new one if it goes wrong.
5. The EPG in NZ is no where near as good as UK and the number of channels is much less.
6. If you are a Telecom customer then you can get the Sky package at a reduced cost.
