Navman maybe worth looking at as they are based in Auckland, not sure how good they are!!!

Navman is pretty good, though I've heard you shouldn't buy old models as they don't support them with new maps anymore.

Just bought a Navman N60i from JB Hi-Fi on Queen Street in Auckland. Reduced from NZ$1089 to NZ$849 as an opening offer! Since I'm going to be doing a fair amount of cruising round on my own looking at rental properties I thought it was worth the investment.

Not really relevant I know but when I switch the satnav on, on our poor old Rover 75 just gives an arrow pointing NW with 12,500 miles on it!

Lucky there are only 3 roads in and out of Blenheim ! :laugh

Used Navman last year on a Pocket PC with TomTom hardware. Worked just fine, though to be honest for the vast Majority of NZ, incuding most of the cities, navigation is so easy you don't really need it!

Bought a Navman F20 (one of the new models mentioned above) specfically because we can have maps for both the UK and NZ on it. It works straight from the box and I cannot recommend it highly enough. £120 from Curry's (discount if you order it online from Dixons).

Its back-on-track works really nicely and rarely do I get the good old 'perform a u-turn when possible!

If you've already got a handheld Garmin GPS you could try

This has all the roads on it and in the last few days a route-able data base has been added so it works like a normal in car GPS.
Seems to work fine round ChCh - even the one way streets.
Also hundreds of shops/filling stations/etc in it as POI's.
