Got a nice job offer in WLT and I'll soon be moving with my wife and 2 year old son. Hopefully we'll be staying for good.

We'll probably be leaving within the next month and we don't even have a date yet. This is crazy and exciting.

Reading the other posts I guess we should bring everything we can except food and cars. Does that sound about right?

Anything else ya'll would recommend?

Thanks!!!

Welcome to the forum! We moved from Oregon about 10 months ago and would highly recommend bringing everything except food and cars and most plug in appliances (if you have plug in stuff you love, use a transformer - though they can be expensive).

Hi and welcome!
there are some canned foods that are allowed, if you want to pack some favorites. We're stocking up on jackets, socks, and underwear, and other clothing as it comes on sale. Just so we don't have to worry about it right away, and we can concentrate on other stressful things when we get there. Also you can't bring any plant material, including pine cones and some wreaths. Have you looked at the MAF site? Here's a link: http://www.maf.govt.nz/mafnet/index.htm

Good luck with everything, TRY not to stress too much!

Amy.

I found some sites that sell 240V->120V converters that are very reasonably cheap (<$0.10/W) but they all have European plugs on the 240V side. I'll probably order 2-3 of them before I leave. Then when the container gets there I'll stop by Dick Smith's and get a 240V soldering iron and some NZ plugs.

Probably my biggest vice is my dependence on things that run on electric.

Other than that, a big source of stress is how we'll be able to afford to buy a house. We have some equity in our current house, but even after that sells I don't know how we'll afford a decent place. I'll be making decent money but even with that and the money from our current house it seems like we'll barely be able to afford is something in Hutt Valley, which we've been told is where we don't want to live. I'll be working in beautiful downtown Wellington.

Does anyone have any recommendations for things to bring on the plane, that might not be obvious? Coming in the middle of winter our bags might just be full of clothes, packed in pots and pans.
