I was granted a Residence Visa in May 2005, with a condition to turn up within 12 months, and a Returning Resident Visa which expired in May 2007 (2 years from issue). I'm now informed by Immigration that as I didn't enter NZ until March 2006 my RRV doesn't expire until March 2008.

Has any else been in this situation? I'm obviously hesitant about an overseas trip when the Visa in my passport clearly states it's expired. Written confirmation from Immigration will take about a month:confused:

We did it over to Oz and had no probs, we had visas issued in Jan 05, arrived in NZ end Apr 05, so the RRV is valid from end Apr 05 - end Apr 07, and we travelled in mid Apr 07 using them.

The RRV runs 2yrs from the first residence permit you had put in your passport (ie your first landing in NZ) where you got stamped by the man/woman in the immigration desk.

jubjub has it right - if you read the RRV it says 2 years from issue of first residence permit, not visa.
