Hi there

I saw a very similar thread about sponsoring parents but my situation is slightly different and I was hoping someone could help me?

I will be a permanent resident very soon through being employed by an accredited employer for 24 months. My parents (living in the UK) are currently exploring the possibility of emigrating out to NZ once they have retired (in about 3-4 years) which coincides with my being a permanent resident for 3 years.

However, I have two younger sisters who will still be living in the UK (independant children - adults in fact) which makes our 'centre of gravity' in the UK - does this mean that my parents are unable to get PR? This seems a really odd rule, especially as my sisters are independant financially. Are there any other ways I can sponsor my parents? Any help much appreciated......

Hi there

My husband and I have just been granted PR on a parent sponsorship scheme as we have 2 sons in NZ and one in the UK, but I'm afraid the only way for your parents to get in is to have as many or more children in NZ as in any other country. If one of your sisters were to go and live in another country they would then be eligible but otherwise not. It has nothing to do with their independence but rather on family reunification and they seem to be pretty rigid on the rules.

Sorry not to be able to give you better news, but the best option for you is to get one of your sisters to join you!

BoP, are your parents over 55?

It doesn't sound like this method is going to be an option for my parents as there's no way my sisters will leave the UK. And they're over 55.

Does anyone have any other suggestions or ways around this problem? Could my Kiwi husband sponsor them?

Any help much appreciated.

Just thinking aloud, but if your parents were to relocate to Spain or France or Ireland, for example, they would no longer be living in the same country as your sisters. I wonder how long they'd have to live somewhere in Europe for before they could apply successfully for sponsorship?
