Does anyone in NZ know of reasonable employers who are looking for overseas candidates as AS400 RPG Analyst Programmers?

I would look to organisations based in Wellington where in my experience most of the larger entities have their network/back end infrastructure based.
Typically they would be Government Departments like IRD, and MSD or large corporates like NZ Post and, Telecom/Gen-i.
You would also find a number of job agencies advertising on jobsites like Seek who could be worth trying.

Steve - my impression of the market here is that it is very much MS/intel based. I'm a Unix bod and there is some work out there but not a great deal - this is mainly banks - bnz/anz/westpac,kiwbank, plus telecom and a few govt agencies but not much - I suspect iseries will be similar. Christchurch might offer more in the programming field

Yes, the asbove is generally true. Lots of Microsoft and lots of Citrix/thin client stuff going on as most of the companies here aren't big enough to warrant the mini/mainframe back end environments.
As pointed out some of the biggest organisations may be worth a try but your general A/P experience may be more valuable than your specific AS400 so Christchurch may provide a good hunting ground, but Welly and Auckland have plenty of this work as well.

If have a list of IT recruiters that could help you. Send me a PM and I can forward you a list of tele#s and email addresses.
I agree with the other person that Wellington would be your best bet because big government is there with their big contracts & big systems!
Besides, Welly is nicer and not as sprawled as Auckland (just my 2 cents worth - hehe).:nice1

John - would you mind sharing your list with me too? Looking for work in Welly, although not AS400. It's been a loooong time since I had a B series next to my desk!

Definitely an upstream swim, but places in Wgtn worth checking out:
- Telecom (biggest adopter in the country)
- Meridian Energy (I think)
- IBM (their shop in Petone had hundreds of AS/400 developers at one time; maybe they're all gone now, maybe a few remain.)

There are quite a few iSeries/AS400 customers all over NZ, though many of the traditional customers (e.g. NZ Post/Telecom/Govt Depts) are all Intel/UNIX these days. There's not many iSeries people in IBM or the channel as the whole community is very small (the company I work for is the distributor for NZ), although skills are rare so if you market yourself you may get lucky (I can help with an installed base list).
