... as I've now been here for three years!

My partner is a kiwi and the two of us had been living together in Edinburgh for several years, when she got one of those early morning phone calls that she was dreading. She came back here for a family emergency in Aug'03, My IT contract finished at Christmas, she returned to Edinburgh in January '04 and we packed our stuff into storage, rented out the flat and moved to NZ in May '04. I'd already been here three times before so I had a good idea what to expect.

Three years, two jobs and two rental properties later, we're still trundling along - totally undecided what we're going to do with the rest of our lives. So far, it's amounted to collecting pacific islands (visted three so far), touring vineyards, learning to sea kayak and making ocassional forays to the South Island :D

Next step is probably to apply for citizenship - which will make both of us dual nationals - then we'll probably spend the rest of our lives flitting between opposite ends of the earth!

Sounds like you've got your priorities right to me. We're a bit more tied to one location at least for the foreseeable future as we have a couple of medium sized people to look after until they can be persuaded to naff off on their own and leave us to go wrinkly on our own.

We came here from just north of Edinburgh as well (I was working in the city centre). Lovely city, shame it's in the UK.

Clearly you know how to enjoy yourselves! Flitting between the ends of the earth sounds like a great plan to me - should keep you both occupied and happy long after you've completed your collection and started on the next one. Some days I find myself thinking of buying a wagon and nomading it for the rest of my life... If only wireless internet access stretched that far.

Welcome to the forum and Carpe Diem :)
