Hi everyone,
Please could anyone advise on how much (£'s) is required to be in the bank to show immigration in order to apply for a WHV - i've heard it is about £3000? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Tony :)

Its around the 2-2.5k in the bank, but in reality this doesn't get checked until you land in NZ, by the immigration peeps. To be honest most people who have gone down that root have not even been checked at immigration, they just check your passport and waive you through. I would still carry the money though even in traveller checks or available credit card balance.
To initially apply for the whv you don't need any money in the bank, I have just done it I and it took about 24hours on the net no proof of funds were needed at this stage. :)

OK thanks a lot for that. So as long as we can prove we have the money in a bank account somewhere it will be fine? Would it be best to have it in a NZ bank account then?
Thanks

As long as you can prove you have the money when you land in nz then you will be fine, be it available credit or actual funds. It doesn't matter where the money comes from as long as you show you have the funds available (that's if they even ask for proof when you arrive in nz).
Personally if your doing the whv with a view to getting pr then I wouldn't get a nz account I would use a uk account to prove available funds, your not supposed to use the whv to get pr. When your in the country then set up a nz account, that's what I intend to do.
Oh and don't forget you don't have to buy a return ticket on a WHV from the uk as a single is fine, but they are more than likely going to check your funds when you arrive in NZ if you do it this way, to see you can afford to fly home. :)

Cheers for the help on that one Russ. I take it its best to keep quiet around NZ immigration about going on a WHV to get PR. I'll keep my funds in the UK account to start off with I think then. We're selling our house before we go also so should have a fair bit of cash to take, would ideally like to have all our money in the same country with us but could easily transfer it.
Thanks :cheers
