There seems to be a fair few ex HM Forces on the board so I thought I'd ask this question!
MoD will pay for the final move from a Service Quarter, but as far as I understand only to a UK address. Has anyone managed to get the MoD to pay part of the cost of the move to NZ, for instance to point of departure?

Not that I know. Most of the ex-forces who are heading out to NZ are actually joining the NZDF in some capacity or another. They recruit up until the age of 55 - well in the RNZAF anyway.
NZDF will then pay for removals etc for a bond/return of service. If you leave before the return of service is up then you pay a percentage of costs back.
RNZAF are after a few more recruits if interested. Just for info less than 3,000 personnel in the RNZAF.

I am joining the NZDF. They are not paying anything in respect of my move to NZ. I am entitled to a few nights Hotel accomodation on arrival and the return of Immigration Medical fees. That is it.

Both of us have given serious thought to transferring to the NZDF but have currently discounted it. After nearly 20 years the OH reckons she's dopne her bit (her spec doesn't exist in the NZDF anyway), and I don't fancy moving around again. We want to settle in Christchurch.
I'll probably stay in the UK Reserves which I joined after leaving the regulars - use the wage and bounty for an annual trip back to the UK.

@ Croft,
Don't you have to attend drill nights and annual camp to accumulate days for bounty etc. That may be difficult from NZ. :)

Ah well, that's the thing. Couple of options - drop a List or two and trade off a reduced obligation against reduced bounty, or do a couple of 2 week exercises per year and that fulfils the entire obligation. I've heard there's also a reciprocal agreement with NZDF so that you can serve with NZDF Reserves and count that as time with UK Reserves. Means UK rate of pay and bounty too!

Really? I always thought you had to pay for your last move when leaving the Forces? This is of some interest, as we are looking to leave the RAF in 15 months time and always thought that we would have to foot the removals bill ourselves (well, actually do the move ourself by hiring a lorry and engaging the help of the family!)...
I would be interested to know if this is the case or not.....
Cheers

Now you've got me thinking. I'll double check but that was our understanding. We're doing our final move next week before emigrating so I'll ask!
From your profile looks as though we're in the same area - I suspect you may be based at the same place as the OH.

Right, the movers were here today for our final move. According to them the MoD do pay for a final move. If it is abroad it is to Port of Departure. The movers then credit the amount that the MoD pay to there from the total bill to NZ.

This is interesting..... My pay office are (still) telling me that we are liable for the last move. I will now have to do some digging. I am based at Northwood, dunno if this is the same as your OH?

Yes, same place. Watch your PerSec though.
It was the movers who told me, not the Pay Office, but it confirms what I have heard previously. I've found advice from the Pay Office can vary depending on the person asked - and I used to be in that line of business!
