Hi all,

What a great site this is for information. My wife and I are moving from Bend Oregon to Christchurch at the beginning of November so we just wanted to introduce ourselves. My wife (my free ticket to NZ) is an Australian and has been in the states for about seven years. We have been in Bend for two years and I came from Salt Lake City in Utah. It’s great to see the concerns we have about this move expressed by so many others in similar situations such as how do we move our little Monster over there (100 pound Lab) which isn’t as bad as bringing two Newfies over? Which moving companies were used and what should we bring and what should we sell?

I hope in the near future we can pick your brains and make this trip as easy as moving around the block.

Welcome to the forums! We'll be arriving in Christchurch around the same time, sporting an Aussie passport as well. Good luck with the move and I hope it goes as smoothly as possible :)

Are you boarding your little Monster at Canterbury Quarantine?

Welcome Bazza! Im an Australian who recently sponsored my U.S husband to NZ citizenship, so will happily answer any questions you may have about the process. He is from Oregon and we lived in Roseburg, OR for ten years before moving to Auckland in October of last year.

Amy.

Wow! What a small world. Thanks for all your help and offers so far. We will be keeping our dog in the Canterbury Quarantine so I had better reserve it fairly quickly. Thanks again.

You should definitely get on that soon. Along with blood test results and the rest, MAF needs a booking confirmation from Canterbury Q before they can send out an import permit. We ran into a little trouble with our cats' vet tests and ended up being very glad we'd applied 4 months in advance (MAF recommends at least 6 weeks) - gave us time to sort it all out.

The owners of Canterbury have been very kind and helpful. Most likely we'll see you at the facility on visit days in November :)

Welcome.

Bend is a pretty town. I played baseball & football in Culver and Sisters in high school, and spent many a day on Mt. Bachelor.

Good luck with the move! Hopefully we'll be in Christchurch by Christmas....
