:clap Hello,
I have just been offered a job which will be both office and field based (safety shoes needed) but I am unsure what exactly to wear when I start -(i dont want to ship all my suits over if that is too formal) In general, do people wear the same sort of stuff for work over in NZ as they do in the UK - i.e. shirts and ties for men, and blouses and skirts/trousers for women, or is the dress code more relaxed?
Thanks for your responses to my queries so far, youve all been great and I feel so much better informed now that a few months ago:clap

It can be quite varied depending on where and who you are working with - I'll give a few examples: -
I work in the IT site for ASB and office dress code is trousers & shirt with collar which includes polo shirts.
Visiting vendors/reps will wear suit with open shirt collar.
Our own visits to head office require a collar & tie (but not suit)
Hope this helps,
David.

Hi,
I think generally it's a lot more relaxed than the UK, but you do still see men in suits, so it's probably bext to check with you're new boss.
My hubby works in IT and wears what he likes. When he first started he made a bit of an effort and wore smart trousers and a short sleeved shirt, now he just wears jeans and a top.

Hi
Sam just started his new job yesterday - he works in IT - and his dress code is trousers and shirt (no tie required). However they have a dress down day every Friday so today he's gone in jeans.
I would certainly recommend bringing at least one suit, for interviews.

Check with boss that are they providing safety clothing and shoes? My OH was given an overall for his job, with work gloves, ear muff etc and now with winter, he was given a wolly hat to keep head warm in garage :laugh

It's becoming rare to see a guy wearing a tie for business. Most office based men wear a good pair of trousers and an open neck shirt of conservative colour and pattern. Dressing up more formal usually means wearing a sports jacket or suit but still no tie.
"Dress down" on friday is allowed in some companies
But companies may have their own dress code.
My advice on the first day for a guy is to dress up as its easier to then dress down!
