I'm not sure if I quite believe it, but... they gave Sian PR!
We got back from a mini-break driving around East Anglia and the letter was waiting for us.
For those that haven't been following our story, I'm a Kiwi who has lived in the UK for almost 10 years. I've been with Sian since 2002, but our application was held up because her dad has Huntington's which is a nasty hereditary disease that robs you of your muscle control and is eventually fatal. There is a 50/50 chance it can be passed on to children.
NZIS originally said no because of the medical history, but we've been given a medical waiver and now comes the hard work of handing in notice, packing up and organising shipping.
For us the NZIS process took just under five months.
Sian had medicals at the end of Dec and I took the application into NZ House in London on Feb 6.
It's such a relief, although I still can't quite believe it - and it's now beginning to sink in how much work we have to do.
I need to give three months' notice at work, so we're looking for an early Oct departure.
We're being a bit unique and heading to my homeland of Southland first - although we haven't ruled out Dunedin as it's a better option for my OH's work.
I guess I better stop rambling on now, and start sorting things out - but first, a big thanks to everyone for the support and encouragement you've shown. I know that being a Kiwi gave me a lot of insider knowledge, but only about the country and not about the immigration process and I have to echo what many have said before - ENZ is a fabulous forum and I would have been quite lost and disheartened without it.
Thank you all xxx

Hi Wiki:clap
I've been following your story-and like many others have looked for an update everytime I logged onto the forum.
I think we both applied for the partnership PR route around the same time; however as my wife was granted hers-your plight began.
At the time I remember posting you a message that I'd read that no partner had ever been refused PR on health grounds-every appeal had been successful-but until you have it in black and white it's so uncertain.
But now you have-so have a few of these :raebanana ...........
and quite a few of these:cheers
Truly pleased for you-the last few months must have been difficult.
All the best in your future plans.....and please keep us posted:yes
Steve
