Hi there
have just booked a Bach for 3 weeks when we arrive in September - anyone used Rent A Bach ? Good/bad experience ???
Is so hard sorting these things out when we have no knowledge of reputations/areas etc!
It''s a three bed house in korororo which we've heard lots of good things about and is nice and close to the centre
Any info would be great !

Hi Northernfive,
I booked through Rent a Bach with no troubles. I think landlords have to keep up to a certain standard in order to be listed there. Hopefully you've also read their policies and know what to expect in case you need to cancel your reservation; sometimes fees will apply. I also got a place in Korokoro when I arrived in WGTN, although it's not the one you've rented. I loved Korokoro -- lots of pretty little houses tucked into the hills, and it's very near the Belmont Reserve where you can tramp and picnic to your heart's content. It's also a short hop to Petone where you'll probably do your grocery shopping and errands. You could walk to Petone from Korokoro, although a certain level of fitness is required -- the uphill return on the footpath is a challenge. Don't try it with your shopping unless you've bought very little and can carry it in a backpack.
I could email you some pictures taken in Korokoro and the Belmont Preserve if you like -- just PM me with your email address.
cheers,
Sarah

Hello from Korokoro,
Dont know much about the rent a bach - but we now live in Korokoro and can definitely recommend it as a place to stay. It is very central for exploring the whole area. The Belmont National Park which was mentioned above is beautiful at any time of year and well worth a good walk. It is a downhill walk to the train station which heads into Wellington and to Upper Hutt - very reasonably priced - my husband and daughter use it every day to get to and from work and school.
The views from Korokoro are (in my opinion:D ) the best in the area and there is an abundance of birds to spot.
I am absolutely convinced you will love your time here and if you need any further info do not hesitate to contact me and I will see what I can do...

She'll be right! We used Rent a Bach (Robert) when we first arrived in Wgtn with no probs, good allround service, and Bach was ok.
Korokoro is a good base to explore the Hutt/Wgtn, with easy motorway access

We also stayed in Korokoro via Robert of Renta Bach. it was excellent. He left us a lovely bottle of chilled wine and flowers when we arrived. It was a clean place with stunning views.
Korokoro is getting to be an expensive area. Ideally you need some kind of transport to at least get you out of Korokoro as it's up quite a steep hill. It's a good, clean area with a lovely neighbourhood feel. While we stayed in the Bach we had a letter in our mailbox inviting us to the neighbours for the regular street get together.
Nearby is a large Pack n Save for your first grocery shopping experience, and as has been said, it is about 20 min drive from central Wellington and the other way Lower Hutt and the Queensgate shopping centre, which is pretty good in my opinion.
Good Luck and look forward to seeing you at one of the Wellington meets.
