I arrived in Auckland yesterday afternoon! Checked in to my serviced apartment, quick shower, visit to Foodtown and then crashed out! I got a decent night's sleep so I should be on reasonable form today. My new emplohyer has said I can start at lunchtime so I'll have a leisurely wander in.
The journey went OK - I had a very luxurious stopover at Le Meridien in Dubai. Well recommended if you fancy splashing out a bit, although it's good value in my book.
Still trying to get my head around the fact that this is not just a visit, so I need to start thinking long-term. I'm sure that'll come once I start work and start viewing rental properties, which will hopefully be this week.
Cheers,
Martin

Wow, keep us posted...I'll be doing the exact same thing in about 30 days. Please post any links or resources you use to find an apartment, and your thoughts on neighborhoods.

I think you are very brave starting work so soon after your arrival - you have so much to do !!
Hope everything soon falls into place for you.

Well, the first day at work has gone fairly well. Just induction-type stuff today but it sounds like they've got "real" work for me to get stuck into almost straight away. First out-of-town business trip (to ChCh) coming up before the end of the month!
I'm staying in a serviced apartment/studio in Parnell (actually nearer Newmarket) which is fine. I found it through http://www.aptsinakld.co.nz
I spoke to a couple of estate agents today, so getting that kicked off. It seems like short-term rentals (we were hoping to only rent for about 3 months before buying) might be a little thin on the ground so may have to adapt plans a bit.
Everyone thinks I'm crazy for starting work so soon after arriving, but I need the routine!
Cheers,
Martin

Good to see you're getting stuck in. I'm sure it will make you focus on getting everything done soon.
Keep up the posts, I'd be interested in hearing your trials and tribulations over the first weeks and months.
