we had a move Welly to Welly recently. Firstly they sent 2 guys not 3 as previously recommended. Then the 2 guys said they needed 6!! So I got onto his boss. They finally did pull out all stops by 4pm BUT they broke a lamp that is not replaceable but did not tell us and hid the evidence. We found out due to A. not being able to find it and B. parts of it on our garage floor.
I rang them to ask where they had put the broken lamp for insurance and they are denying everything. they left a voicemail saying it was a simple A to B move and they have no knowledge of a broken lamp. the fact they asked us to empty the water in it(fancy John Lewis Light with small balls) that I know they packed it. Not to mention finding the parts left.
I now wonder in our original move here 2 boxes they said did not exist but were on the list were actually broken and hidden. Its only since not finding things that I have realised they did really exist. Serves me right for using them again, be warned.

:yes we had problems with moving company in christchurch....that i didn't took chance to use them again for moving from rental house into our house.
If I was you, keep on them about lamp till they gave in :yes and go around to office too to see manager.
I finally went around to manager's office after all the hassles we had with them, after confirmed from customs that our shipping container was released after they held container over medications but not heard from moving co for few days...poor communication.

That awful! It's bad enough to have movers break things, but then to HIDE the broken pieces and lie in your face is just amazing  I hope you can keep at them and get your insurance for the lamp!

Really sorry to hear your experience Angel, not good by any standards :(
We have used The Moving Company because they were so good when our shipping arrived (John Masons UK end, The Moving Company NZ end). They were equally good moving our stuff one kilometre around the corner here in Auckland, so hopefully your shipping will be in safe hands Paula.

Hmmm.. it does seem to be a location issue. Lots of negative reports around the Christchurch branch, not very good in Wellington, but some fairly positive stuff around Auckland. Hopefully thats good news for you Pink Piggy and something to think about for everyone moving to Christchurch/Wellington and considering the Moving Co.

We had the Moving Company in Auckland. They were excellent in moving our stuff from harbour to home, but not so excellent (that's putting it very mildly) regarding the MAF fees. Be careful and do not pay up front!

Guess what I found the actual lamp.......broken and hidden in my xmas tree box and at the back of the garage. they knew we would not find it for 6 months. Spoke with them and they told me to email them but they could not do anything about it. Case of wine came to thought as an apology, bet I do not even get a reply.

We had Moving Company here in Auckland (John Masons UK end) and they were awful. Not at all careful with our stuff (I was watching them)...boxes not handled carefully (even though we asked them to take more care) despite containing breakables....yes, stuff was broken. They also lost several boxes....surprise, surprise CD's and DVD's.....found them, but ONLY after we made a really big fuss and when they arrived they had been opened and rearranged. Had to check oujr database to make sure nothing missing
They also lost our fridge freezer (not a small item)....when that turned up it was very badly dented!!
Well, we got a MASSIVE amount of insurance money back...especially when you add up all the little crockery bits that were broken. Had to argue about it though.....they kept saying that X item not on their inventory....but TOUGH...wqas professionally packed and inventory done by their (John Mason) packers.

Well, apart from annoyances with customs that weren't really their fault, we had absolutely no problems with the Moving Company (Welly branch).
When our stuff arrived, 2 guys in a van got to our house at 8.20am on a Saturday morning, and wouldn't hear a word of me or Catie offering to help. They were super speedy, offered to unpack the boxes for us (we said no, cos we wanted to do it in stages, and not have stuff everywhere) and told us to just leave any boxes we wanted collecting outside the house, and to give em a ring and they'd come and pick them up.
Also, not ONE item got broken in the journey (John Mason UK end and Moving Co. this end).
I'd recommend them definitely

Whoa, that rings a bell! That happened to us as well (1,5 years ago, also moving company), only because I insisted and kept insisting they found the boxes with cd's and dvd's.
