When we get jobs in Wellington CIty and need to drive in, are there enough parking spaces? Do you have to pay?

We are currently looking at houses around Wellington City - is it far to walk?

Quite a few car parks, some around $10 a day, some a lot more expensive and some cheaper. You may find if you move further out of the city you can get the bus in or the train as it may be easier than sitting in a traffic jam in commuting times :nice1

Have a look at www.metlink.org.nz/section10.php this gives all the public transport options around Wellington area.

I had never heard of a "car park" before I moved to NZ. Doesn't it sound like a place where cars go to play? Do they have swings and monkey bars for the cars? :laugh

parking is from three to 4 dollars an hour 9-6pm monday to thursday and 9-8 friday. there is a two hour time limit and they DO give tickets if they've been round and seen your car there. there are 10 hour parking spots on cambridge/kent terrace. saturday is free parking 9-6, two hour time limit and they do give tickets if you go over this limit. after that they dont do anything. sunday is free parking no time limit.
there are some good parking buildings around that if you get in before 9 or ten, have a good all day rate, especially on the weekend. wilson parking i find good on friday and saturday nights when parks are at a premium. its 5 dollars for 24 or 12 hours (cant remember exactly which one....in case you have to leave your car in town).

One of the advantages of Wellington is that it is a compact city.
From my home in Brooklyn (in the South) it takes 40-50 minutes to walk to the Railway Station which is at the northern end of the CBD.

All day carparking ranges from $10-16 per day
You can also rent carparks (both covered or uncovered) for $60-80 per week.

Monthly bus passes are about $95 per month.
