Was writing this up for a friend, and thought it might be useful for some people here. Criteria: Must consistently have at least three vegetarian meals on the menu, and be a place at which I'd eat again.
These are in a very rough ascending order of price.
Abrakebabra, Manners Mall - kebabs and similar, if it wasn't obvious :)
R & S Satay, Courtenay Place - Cheap, filling Asian meals - be aware they once accidentally put meat in a "vegetarian" dish, but it was only once out of many times, so I'd still recommend
Espressoholic, Courtenay Place - cafe type meals. Quite slow service, which doesn't usually bother me but not a place to go to if in a hurry
Midnight Espresso, Cuba St - more cafe type meals, open late, mainly but not exclusively vegetarian with a good range of vegan options.
Burger Fuel, Courtenay Place - a range of vegetarian burgers but limited seating
La Casa Pasta, Dixon St - cheap and nice Italian food, if somewhat unoriginal options compared to, say, Nicollini's
Aunty Mena's, Cuba St - the only completely vegetarian place on the list. Huge range, inc a lot of 'fake meat' options
Dawaat - my favourite Indian restaurant, with a typically good vegetarian selection
The Curry Club, Victoria St - largest range of vegetarian Indian dishes I've found
Royal India, Allen St - another good Indian restaurant
Syn - Hell Pizza in a bar type atmosphere (so 18+). Does get quite crowded.
Niccolini's, Courtenay Place - really good Italian food. You'll likely need to book.
Flying Burrito Brothers, Cuba St - Mexican food, good frozen margaritas and the Quesadillas are virtually a full meal
Hazel, Mount Victoria - really, really nice restaurant - I'd recommend the pumpkin and feta wontons
Zibibbo, Taranaki St - Mediteranean Food
