Hi,
We are in the process of EOI, job interviews etc. We will need to sell our house in the UK first before moving over as we will need the cash.
I am assuming that the shipping company can pick up our belongings from our house on the day of exchange.
However as we will not be in NZ then we will not have an address for them.
What do people do in this situation ? Get it shipped over there into a storage depot ?
We plan to rent first until we know the areas and then we will buy a house.
Would we be advised to rent a furnished place for a few months and keep the belongings in storage or would the cost of this be expensive ?
Problem is if we rent an unfurnished place then we will be stuck there with no belongings until they arrive.
Thanks for any advice
Dom.

hi, I am just going through the process of obtaining quotes from shipping companies. They don't seam to worry about the destination address, as this can be advised whilst the shipment is on its way. I presume that they only need to know roughly were you intend to go, i.e. BOP, Auckland etc. One company agreed that they would store for upto 1 month in the UK prior to shipping for free.
Hope this helps!!!

Cool.
Do you mind posting your quotes here Dan please ? I can use them to compare to mine when I get some as well (I will post mine too). I have seen a few old quotes on here but some up to date ones would be good.

Hi Dom
You can advise them of delivery address later, all the shipping co need is which port you want goods sent to. They need a contact address and that can be changed as and when.
Shipping costs about £3200 for 20 ft plus £300 for insurance. We had month free storage off our company in UK before shipping container.
Storage costs at arrival port are higher than cost to store goods away from port. As our service was door to door, I presume most are, it was more convenient to get your goods delivered to the property you are going to live in than to another storage area and then have to move them again.

Hi Dom
Our container has just arrived in Auckland and we get our belongings next Friday. :D We used White & Co. which cost us £3165 from Scotland to Hamilton. They offered up to 8 weeks free storage in the UK and just charged a one off admin fee of £100. We used this facility for 2-3 weeks as we didn't have PR at the time of moving out of our house.
We haven't used the shipping companies insurance as this is very expensive and are using a company called Letton Percival (recommended to us by other forumites). This cost about £300.
We had quotes from Pickfords (£4000) and PSS (£3750).
Depending on where you are staying, it can be difficult to find fully furnished rentals, most are unfurnished. There are a couple of companies out there who rent goods out. Try looking at this website http://www.dtr.co.nz/index.cfm/easi_rent
We rented unfurnished and just bought some garden furniture, as we don't have any of this, and bought an airbed for us to sleep on. The boys needed new beds anyway so we just bought them new ones. We then bought a cheap pan set, dinner set etc. from The Warehouse and KMart and have basically been 'camping' in our house for a while. It all adds to the experience. ;)
