hi,

i'm a bit confused... i am from SA, but been living in the UK for 2 years. I'm a physio with a job offer in NZ, but now just wondering which route to go down for a work permit. I am planning on moving to NZ permanently, but dont want to go the permanent rseidency route just yet cuz i'm running out of time.

do we need police clearances from SA for a normal work permit? i am either going to apply for it in London, or once i'm already in NZ. any tips?

Thanks,

Emily

Hi Emily,
Are you both under 30? I think you are.
If so you can apply on line for a 12 month working holiday visa that can easily be extended for a further 12 months.
There are no police checks or medicals; however I believe it does have limitations regarding how long you can work for one employer.
I’m sure other will know more.

The only restriction on a WHV is that you cannot take permanent employment, that just means that your contract can't exceed the expiration of the WHV, I'm sure most employers would be willing to renew a contract for someone that goes from a WHV to a regular work permit or PR.

Hi again Emily,
If you are running short of time and thinking of moving to Napier, you really should talk to a guy called Ron Massey in Napier City Council, he is the economic development manager. In English it is his job to help people relocate to Napier, he is a really nice guy. He has a wealth of information and can defiantly ‘open doors’ for people who are serious about relocating to the bay, all of his knowledge and services are free and he can help with housing, visas, jobs in fact just about anything.
Email him or give him a ring and just have a chat.
Tel: +64 6 834 4193 email: ron@napier.govt.nz
Good luck
James
