After 21 years in the wilderness I have finally decided to head back home... :raebanana I've spent the last 17 years in Holland and have a Dutch wife and young daughter of 3 years.

The thing is I really don't know where to start.... I have mountains of questions but will take the time to read through the threads here. There seems to be alot of great advice......

Atleast I don't have the hassle of working visums, permanent residence etc ... but I've been away for so long that although everything sounds strangely familar but also completely different. 20 years is a long time !

Although I come from Auckland originally I'm looking at Wellington to relocate....

Tell me its all worth it ....

Yah Dave its worth it! My OH came back to NZ after 14 years in Canada and he is like a littly porky at the trough, lapping up all the things he missed in North America.... cricket, rugby, outrigger canoes, meat pies (yuk), hot bread on sunday, family family, oh and did I mention family?

There are so many knowledgeable people on this forum, you will get all the help you need so just feel free to fire away the questions.

I'm sure it'll all be worth it and if he misses those little Dutch necessities there are a number of Dutch 'Cheese' shops around that as well as selling lots of cheese related things also sells lots of other Dutch foods. :clap I lived in Holland from the age of 8 - 11 and I was like a kid in a candy store the first time I went in, Dutch liquorice (salted and sweet), hagels, droste chocolates, satay, and lots lots more including clogs! OH tries to keep me out of there now. :roll

My OH was travelling and living in the UK for 10 years and even though we came back a few times recently, she's still astounded at how much things have changed. I think you be very pleasantly surprised - not only to find your old favourites still around, but at the choice of goods now available in NZ these days and the change in attitudes. I get the impression that NZ is much more relaxed about lots of things now that used to cause major strife ten or twenty years ago.
