Hi folks,
I had a search round the forums for this but couldn't spot anything.
Having just bought a car I need to sort out insurance. Can anyone recommend a good company? Price is less important than good service, in my view (although I won't pay over the odds). People at work have mentioned State or AMI - any views?
Cheers,
Martin

I'm with AMI, but that wasn't really my choice. My first car in NZ was a Subaru Imprezza - 2.0L non-turbo, unmodified - but many insurance companies refused to touch it. Now I've got a brand new Outback at twice the value - and the premiums are less :laugh
AMI will consider a UK no-claims bonus however (and other companies may too). If you can get your old insurance company to write a letter detailing your no-claims history, some companies in NZ will honour that too and give you that history - which can substantially reduce your premiums :clap

We are with AMI, they were the cheapest quote for us (only tried a couple though). They did take our UK no claims discount into account and now that we have other policies with them get a discount on that as well.
If you are on full no claims discount then after a year they will protect it as well.
From a service perspective, I had to put in a claim with them and it was handled very simply / quickly, so very good.
Would definitely check out AA and State as well though.

We used ASB, then moved to State cos they were cheaper this year. One benefit with State is that with fully comp insurance you get breakdown cover.
We did make a claim while with ASB and it was dealt with quickly from their end (panelbeaters was another story!!!)

We're with ASB but that was because it was easier. We had just arrived and set up bank accounts and therefore got a discount for having additional products with them and they gave us our no claims discount from the UK (without having to produce evidence). We now have a second car and that's also insured with them as are the contents of our house. Each extra product received a bigger discount.
Maybe next year when it's time to renew we'll find cheaper elsewhere.

We're with AMI, they were the cheapest of all the other companies we enquired with, and the friendliest when we came to one of their offices/called to enquire about their policies. We paid $450 approx for yearly comprehensive insurance.
I refused to go with AA, they quoted me $1200 :exit :laugh

Im with ASB, cos they gave us the best quote and they are the friendliest insurance peddlers (i.m.h.o)

We are with State, and when I had the car accident in September (not my fault!) State were fantastic, sorted everything out.
Luckily we had taken out extra cover, so even had car hire for 2 weeks too.
May find u pay alittle more for them, but when it boils down to it and u need to claim cheapness is not alsway the best, check the cover!
We will be sticking with them!

We're with State for the lot, 2 cars and house insurance etc.
They were best price by a long chalk for fully comp on the souped up peugeot and also for the 3.6 mitsu when I bought that. :nice1
I've had to claim once when a dork reversed into me and they were excellent. They are efficient and friendly on the phone and the forms come ready completed. YAY!
I've just renewed my policy and filled in some online quote forms to check the cost. I used AMI, Tower etc they came in way too expensive and took a while to get back to me.

Hi
We did everything through the BNZ and the costs were reasonable and they were really helpful

We went with AMI mainly for convenience as they have an office in Cambridge but also they accepted our full no claims from the uk without proof.
also get a discount with second car and house insurance.

I went with ASB bank insurance, for some reasons is cheaper than AA. So yeah, have a look if you're an ASB bank client.
