OH got a job offer last night, starts work in Ellersie, in Auckland, first week of September
:raebanana .

Not where we wanted as we would have preferred north of the bridge, but its a job.

Pay is not brilliant but better than we originally thought as we thought the offer was in thousand $ per year, but it was $ per hour.

Now its panic stations.

11:30 last night I was filling in the online EOI, this morning have changed my mind and decided we haven't got the time to get PR before September so have decided to go for Work Visa, but why is work visa other cheaper than work visa long term shortage?

Still want to visit US on way so need to arrange that.

Started my list of things that need to be done and the first thing was that I need to get one of those wonderful lists off here on what need to be done so thanks to those have have posted lists, I will be searching in a moment.

Congratulations with the job offer :clap

I would still get the EOI in and under way especially now you have a job offer on the table.

Good Luck with the organising, not long to go until September :cheers

Gosh, your story is just so like ours a yr ago!
We came over yr past June for reccy trip and OH got offered 2 jobs, the job he decided on gave us 7 weeks to move over, so I know exactly where u are coming from!
We applied for wk visas for quickness, and at the same time residency, as that does take longer. I organised everything from movers, us, to even the dog, and we only eventually got our wk visas a week before we were due to fly out to NZ, what a relief to finally get them in our hands, I actually cried when i opened the envelope with sheer relief! If things had gone pair shaped we would have lost alot of money.
We did n't manage to sell the house until the Nov, and we came in the August last yr, (that's another story!!)
We did get our residency in Oct, so just another 4 and abit yrs to go for citizenship!
But best of luck with your new adventure, and if u need anything just pm us!

I filled in my EOI in late October and had PR by the end of November, so it can be done...

Oh heck, you better get busy!

Hey, it may not be the perfect job, or location, but its a foot in the door, and you can always change both of those when you are here and get a bit settled.

Have a drink, sounds like you need it (although its a bit early for you at the mo, have it later!)

WELL DONE ! fab news and I was just logging on to say have you seen that primary school teachers are now on the Immediate Skills Shortage List?

Fingers crossed for the house sale now.

And any pointers into how you got your job offer?! Did you apply for many? Is it permenant?

Best of luck and good for you showing such perserverance.

Thanks for the responses,

carey - I hadn't seen that Primary teachers were on the shortage list.

OH sent off CVs and letters to 20 primary schools in the north shore area, then start applying for vacancies that came up on the ed gazette. She is registered with the ed gaz and gets an email every day. The job she has got is with a non-state nursery, which is not really what we wanted but as someone said, it is a foot on the ladder and it gets us in.

Hope you have good news soon.

Good stuff. We'll have a room ready for you in Hamilton when you're down for the cricket. Find a home with a space for me, I might come the other way for the Auckland matches :yes

John,
Only just seen this so congrats are definitely in order to Kim on the job offer. As others have said, even if the job isn't ideal, it's a way in and doesn't have to be for ever.

A couple of these are definitely in order and with your culinary skills you could make banana bread, flambe them.....etc etc

John, congrats, but I reckon you will easily get PR with a job offer. Give it a crack mate, could be worth it in the long run, it does make things easier when you here.
