Hey, my name is Jeni Shirley. My husband, Jake, and I are moving to Auckland this September (2007), for the purpose of making the most out of life.

In some ways I feel like I'm back in grade school, learning measurements and so forth, since I'm used to inches and pounds. It's sort of like a new language, except it feels more like I've just been living in an ignorant society.

So far this forum has been helpful - thanks.

Hi, Jeni! I'm also moving out to Auckland hopefully in September as well. No spouse and kids for me though, just going to roll the dice and see what happens.

It's an exciting prospect isn't it! :D

It is exciting, especially because we've never been there. I deserve to be called crazy for it, but it's sort of how my life is. It's much easier without having kids yet for sure. Thanks for the welcome!

I definitely know what you mean; going to the grocery and getting used to comparing prices in kilograms or asking for 400 grams of fish fillet definitely took me awhile. I think I've gotten the hang of that now after 6 months and I can convert celsius to fahrenheit but I still can't see a number in kilometers and get a sense of what that is in miles (good thing I just drive the speed limit :D)

Good luck with your plans!

Jen

I have problems converting everything except kilometers to miles. The only reason I'm like tht though, is I used to run in 5k races all the time. So I learned that 5km = 3.1 miles, so I just shorten it to 5k=3 miles.

We moved here about a year and a half ago from Park City...hence the moniker...big adjustment! We are living in Auckland at the moment. It almost seems colder here in the winter than PC because of the dampness and the sun doesn't shine nearly as much...ah, those blue bird UT days....and I had to have a chuckle because after being in our house only a few weeks, two missionaries knocked on the door...

Welcome to the forum!

Is there any rock-climbing out there? You know how the mountains are here.

Even in Utah, I haven't had a missionary knock on my door. You got lucky I guess (sarcasm). :p

Yea, I never had the knock on the door there either...funny I had to come half way 'round the world. There is rock climbing here and my partner can provide you with more of the details as he is the climber/kayaker/mountain guy. The outdoor life here ia abundant, have no fear. My partner is a big kayaker which was a bit of a challenge in UT.

I still have an interest in my business there. We have 3 locations, 2 in SL (Foothill and Sugarhouse) and one in PC...it is an affordable massage studio called Knead a Massage. You will need at least one or two with the stress of moving and they will get a kick that we met via a NZ connection.

Good luck with everything and let me know if you need more info on anything...and by the way, don't use Allied out of SL for your move. Trust me on this one.
