I see Primary School Teachers are now on the Immediate Skills Shortage list and even highlighted in yellow!, but what does this actually mean? Does it help with points for EOI? Will there somehow be more jobs? In reality I havn't got time to look at the Immigration site right now but hoping when I return somebody in the know will give a quick answer! A bit cheeky I know and I promise to do better later on....

I'm not sure what it actually "means" but I know the last time the school I worked in (I admit last year...) advertised for a position - they were inundated with CVs so not sure how there could possibly be a shortage!
Unless they are all coming out of Teacher training and thinking "yeah right...:exit"

Thanks Carol for replying; is it anything to do with the lesson preparation time teachers are to now get in the school day? Have scoured the NZIM site now but still not clear, so if anyone does know anything, I'd be glad to hear.

Heard back from NZIM today; here is their answer
"As Primary School Teacher is now an occupation listed on the Immediate Skill Shortage List, application processes for temporary work permits in this field are streamlined.
However, the Immediate Skill Shortage List does not directly affect applications for residence."
Don't think it helps much in terms of getting a job though!
But I have to say NZIM are very good at replying to questions.

We had the same with OH's occupation also appearing on the list 'Painting Decorating/Paperhanging'.
NZIS said no extra points, and failed to explain how this might help our application in any way!!! :wah
What's the point of having an ISSL? Unless your work permit gets fast tracked once in NZ do you think it will?
It's such a shame because here we are qualifications and experience to hand but nowhere near being selected from the pool unless we have a job offer. :(
Kind regards
