Can anyone give us some hints / tips for budget accommodation in Auckland? We would prefer self catering but at this stage every dollar saved is a plus!:D We are leaving South Africa on the 3rd of October and going to have a proper look around so looking for approximately 3 weeks, maybe more.
Thanks!

HI
My Sister may have a room they wont mind renting out.
Or i can ask them if they know of a place you can rent for 3 weeks.
So is it just self catering you would like ?
And is there any perticular place in Auckalnd you would like to be based in ?
Cheers

When my wife and I first arrived we stayed in backpackers, and this drove me round the twist after a couple of days (noisy, and sharing the kitchen irritated me). After that we stayed in cabins (old caravans) in campsites, and it was a huge improvement. Admittedly there is no ensuite, but it was peaceful. Caravan parks are mainly full of families so after the kids go to bed things go very quiet. We had our own place in the UK so got used to having a bit of privacy and quiet. Look for the Top 10 holiday parks, they are usually going to be the best in the area.

Hi Jayne,
Thanks for the reply. We are in Cape Town at the moment, I lived in the UK for 10 years and my parents travelled around the globe like gypsies when I was younger so not I'm too fussed about the move. OH was kinda stressed as he has only taken vacations and not really lived abroad but, like everybody else, we are dreaming of a better quality of life so with that in mind (and 2 St Johns Wort pills a day!!:D ) OH is really looking to make the most of this move! We don't have any children, with the state of things in SA at the moment we decided to wait and see if we can get settled overseas - it has also been quite a big feature in making our decision as I can't bring myself to raise children in the kind of environment we live in here.
We do however, have 2 beautiful cats which are going home to the "grandparents" until we get sorted:yes
Are you also in SA?
Liz
