Im sure most people on the board would not get caught out by this however !

After my medical my chest x-ray showed a minor anomaly.
The doctor reckoned that the NZ medical on ITA might have an issue with it and so recomended that I get an opinion from a respiratory specialist.

To confirm ensure not pre - TB.

So I duly booked a private consultation (£150)

He was not concerned by what he saw reckoned caused by an infection in the past.
(I currently run 15/25 miles a week)-when not full of cold !

Jobs a good- un.

Alas at the time I had a cold so in order for him to write up a report he wanted to take some blood to show that I had an infection (When he listened to my chest this was apparent)

Now imagine my surprise when I received a bill for the bloodtests for over
(£300 !!!!!!!!)

approx 6 tests carried out ........bone density,thyroid......etc
:exit

This has consent issues.

Currently querying this.............

But of note having never used a private consultant before people beware
nail that price down. Both before and during !!!!!!!!!!

Of course I need to tread carefully I cannot afford the report not being sent to complete our medical pack up.

So endeth my tale :)

:cheers

Good News in that the specialist report has landed with our UK NZ medical centre. We should get our medicals delivered soon.
Just waiting on my police check and our ITA pack up will be complete we plan to take it down to London !
As regards paying for all the bloodtests thats still ongoing !

exactly what happened to me with my X rays. confusion was because of previous pneumonia infection. luckily for me my GP who I've been going to for 30 years, was apoplectic when she learned that he did not pass my Xray and said I might have TB or current pneumonia, she had just done my complete medical and blood tests, which showed no infection, no cough etc etc, so she quickly got onto the XRAy technician and we had a second Xray 2 weeks later which confirmed no current infection. the only cost was the second XRay which thanks to my GP's insistence that the technician had not done a very good job the first time, I only paid $40 for. sorry to hear about your huge extra costs, it sounds like more tests than necessaary were done and you did not request them, so I would fight it.

Thanks for that Kanatakiwi

Alas it gets worse ! I sent a letter querying the extra blood tests and if the report had been sent for me . As I stated earlier Handsworth phoned up and said it had arrived. They phoned up the next day and said that the report was good but had ended with a caveat subject to blood test results !
So this consultant sent a report which is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard !
Now I have been trying to get in touch with him ! I simply cannot believe he sent the report without the test results.
Now our Emigration medical pack is on hold all because of this. I could rant for ever.

It sounds like just another money grab. Between you, me and the lamp post, NZ should run after those people who are trying to come under the SMC instead of creating these "walls". After looking at the situation where a lot of folks leave NZ for lack of money and such, they should be bending over backwards to get good people to come in and stick around

Oh I so agree , after the endless rounds of medicals , blood tests, urines samples, x rays , more xrays I would hate to add up how much money we have spent trying to get that elusive PR! We are still not there so you have my upmost sympathy as I know exactly how you feel.

My OH was brought to NZ by his company as no one in NZ has his skills and I am involved in the setting up of New Zealand's first in- school dyslexia unit so I would like to think that we are doing our bit to contribute .You would think that immigration would be glad to have us but instead they seem to do everything in their power to send us back!

I have had to persuade my OH that it is worth the grief and expense as he is feeling now that it is not worth all this , that the powers that be are just taking the p*** and we should just go home!

Very best of luck , please be assured that life in NZ is pretty wonderful and I hopw you get here in the end (hopefully we won't be travelling in the other direction!

Best Wishes

Denise

Thanks for that Denise yes the whole medical thing does get tiresome ! Hope the wheels of common sense kick in for you guys :)

Well today we received a letter from the consultant explaining that the bloodtests were normal baselines ones (Nice of this to be explained to me)
Also explaining that the blood tests were normal. Great - why not this detail on the report sent to Handsworth I asked when I eventually got through to his secretary ? Well the blood tests were not available then was the answer !
I could have sworn that the whole purpose of the consultation was to get a report that verified I was ok !!!!!!!!
Not an open ended report.
The letter sent to me has now been faxed to Handsworth will have to wait and see if it is good enough to support the report.
I simply cannot believe how a consultation designed to expedite potential problems turned into a problem on its own.
I hope it finishes soon.
So again if you employ a consultant be very clear even perhaps to a written letter exactly what is required. What is included in the price and what costs extra and why.

The letter faxed was not good enough Handsworth (Who have been very good) contacted them and requested that the blood test results be faxed which they duly did.
Today we received our complete medicals :)
Now its just the police check (day 35 ! ) for me
Im so pleased the post office have started striking
hey ho

having now received our ITA approved.

Lessons learnt

If you have any medical condition particularly if noted by your immigration medical.

Get a current report i.e date stamped as of your application.

Im convinced this can avoid things being sent off for medical assesment by your case officer to be - or indeed just further queries from your case officer.

just a thought :)

Thanks for that just need exchange of contracts now :)

What I was trying to say on my earlier post was say for example "say 3 years ago you has a tendency to lean to the left ! "
You saw a specialist they gave you a diagnosis /prognosis.
Placed you on medication and reviewed annualy by your GP.
Even if when you have your medicals they seem happy with it and dont mention it.
When your ITA is submitted your case officer may well query it.
Why?
Date and time - even though everything is fine they may well ask for a current report.Since the last report was done 3 years ago.The fact that is monitored yearly by your GP will be irrelevant.
In our instance not that any of us lean to the left or right for that matter !We required our GP to write a report post ITA submittal - case officer was then happy.
Obviously it will depend on the nature of the condition.
Anything glaringly obvious should be picked by the medicals.
Hope this helps

Congrats on the ITA approved.
