Hi everyone,
we are off to NZ this September, our Skilled Migrant application having been accecpted last week!
We have two children, 12 adn 16 who both want to come back here to the UK for Uni. After 2 (and 6) years of living in NZ, does anyone knwo if they woudl be classed as home or international students in the UK, as Home is considerably cheaper than international.
Thanks,

If they have British passports then they would be home students.
(albeit with international school qualifications)

Actually I would do some checking on this - as I thought I had read that if you leave the country for more than a certain time, then they are seen as international students.
but I may have read it wrong - but Jas did think of going back to a Uni in the UK. so the right info would be useful

found something! ......
I live outside the UK, but I am a British citizen, what fees do I pay?
Fee status is determined using the UKCOSA guidelines. As a general principle, applicants will normally be regarded as International for fee purposes unless they have been ordinarily resident in the EU for three years immediately before the start of the academic year in which the course begins. For further information for students living or working overseas please visit the student support website, or the University of Exeter's International Office.

Ah, oddly the first site I looked into on this didn't mention anything about the three years.
Other uni sites I've looked at now do mention it - but how does that work if people spend a gap-year in South America? That wouldn't class them as the prior three years in the UK.
I found another uni site that said if parents can prove they have a set-time contract in another country and have kept a link in the UK (like renting out their home) then they can claim to be local students.
Sounds a swizzle to me.

Boy this is complicated - usual government mumbo jumbo which is hard to read and get a simple deduction, I hope someone can translate it into simple english for me!:p

Hi, I've just returned after about 18 months in NZ and had to jump through hoops to go to Uni this year and be classed as a home student but I'm lucky (and I'm only doing 1 post graduate year). I think as you (as in the parents)have PR in NZ then your children would be classed as international students, and if they are out of the country for more than 3 years there is no doubt at all. If one returns after 2 years he/she probably still won't be awarded home fee status. I rang the Uni's and the Local Education Authority before I applied (whilst still in NZ) and they were very clear so I would suggest doing that now so your childrenknow where they stand. They will be able to attend Uni in NZ as residents though so can still complete their education.
