Overloaded emergency staff ask non urgent cases to go elsewhere

The Emergency Ward at Christchurch hospital is overflowing, forcing staff to urge people to stay away for the rest of the day and night unless their situation is urgent.
A hospital spokesman says it has been an extremely busy day and non-urgent patients are being asked to see a doctor at the 24 hour medical centre in the city. .
