Thought it would be interesting in a poll how people are coping. This is a multi poll and you do not have to comment, but please do if you so desire.
I would have put happy with housing but they only allow ten answers.
Kindest regards

We are very happy with our life in NZ !
6 months in we:
have had no unpleasant surprises (ie; things we didn't expect)
were lucky enough to be able to buy a great house, albeit with a sizable mortgage, but one that we can handle (knew there had to be an advantage to buying a house within 3 weeks of arrival :laugh ! That was definitely not the plan, but absolutely no regrets as we got our mortgage in just before the recent interest hikes :clap !)
love our wonderful new home. Although it's not as warm as the one we came from, it's a fair bit warmer than we were expecting
are lucky enough to be coping well financially
are having no trouble whatsoever with homesickness (sounds weird, I know, but it's the truth nonetheless. Guess we didn't feel much at home where we came from...)
feel very much at home here (even though, of course, we're still figuring some things out like what's the best place to buy..., what the best way to..., where/how do we... etc.. Many interesting challenges ;))All in all, we're doing great and feel very priviliged to be here !

Hi All.
These results are very useful.
They show that although the majority are happy over here, there are still 6 people (10.96%) who will be returning to the UK and 4 are not happy . This gives people who are thinking of coming over the facts that there are problems over here and not everything is a bunch of roses. The good thing about this forum is that it prepares people for coming over and what to expect . There are still so many people that come over and are not aware of the minuses as well as the plusses. I think the NZ immigration should promote forums like this although they will probably think it will put people off which I don't think is the case as it made us more aware of what to expect.
On a change of note, with the help of ENZ (Douglas) I now have links to our information posts in my signature. For all those that have asked us, Douglas felt that this was a better way than putting too many Stickies on the forum and I agree with him. I will be updating the posts if more come along.
Thankyou everyone for all your comments and I will endeavour to provide more useful info.
Kind regards
Dave and Caroline

HI
Have to agree with Silverwing and Willsken - we absolutely love it here.
Just coming up to 14 weeks here and we are so settled!
Really like our jobs
Little boy loves his school (settled well into kindy and daycare here too)
Just bought a house and move in in 2 weeks
Dont feel homesick at all (have to admit we never have!!)
Residency application going through
Met some really nice people
We're here to stay!!

What a great poll. And the fact that (so far) nearly 89% of respondents are happy to be here is fantastic news. Can't be all bad then in NZ, can it!!:laugh
Whilst too late for this poll, I wonder whether the location in which people settled is the major contributor to their happiness/unhappiness. I ask as so many people seem to dismiss Auckland when choosing where to live, yet IMHO living on 13 acres just south of this city, with work a short twenty minute drive through beautiful countryside and hardly any traffic to East Tamaki to a well paying job, and with all of the benefits of a major CBD only 40 minutes away - theatre, events, restaurants, harbour, etc, this city cannot be beaten!
And.. there seems to be English (and South African) foods on just about every supermarket shelf here too:yes

Hey Sharon
Has your job got better then? You were a bit wobbly about it in the early days, but sounds like you're happier now?

Hi Sam
Yes, its much better thanks!
Managed to provide 2 weeks good cover for that bloke (next to useless in showing me what to do), and have learnt a lot of other bookings coordinators roles and filled in for them. Have also applied for a position within the department concentrating on one speciality instead of about ten or so, and hope to get so can have permanent base instead of moving around the Hospital.

Yep, we could have written that too - and we'll have been here three years in a few weeks time!!
They'll be taking me back to the UK in a box....
