Hi, I am a new poster although I have been viewing this fab site for some time now. I am married with 2 children and we have been talking about moving to NZ for over a year now. But having filled in the EOI on-line I feel that we will never make it.
I hope someone out there can give me some advice.
My husband was a BT engineer for 12 years and is now in mobile communications. (Technical job along the lines of Network Management Eng I think.) Telecoms aren't listed on the absolute shortage list but are on the immediate shortage list. Without a job offer we don't have enough points so I was wondering if there is anybody out there from the same background who could let me know how they got there, so to speak.

My family and I are hoping to get to New Zealand around March next year. My husband is a Newtork Planning Engineer for Orange here in the UK at the moment have you had much look in your search for telecoms jobs...?

Hi there, I work for Vodafone, and they're a great company to work for, and they pay v well too (which is nice). They recruit through Hays, Seek.co.nz, although Robert Walters (and just recently Agility Group) are your best bet if you're going for a Technical role.

I can guarantee you once you have PR they'll be knocking on your door, but that doesnt really help you... Getting that elusive offer from overseas is the stumbling blocks for most people. All I can say is that employers/agents look very favourly on those who are actually on NZ soil and job hunting.

Its a big wrench/risk for guys like yourselves with family etc.. but I'm pretty certain if your husband was over here, CV in hand, and available to work immediately, he'd find himself an offer and Work Permit in no time at all.

I guess I'd start by sending your CV to all recruitment agents as well as eg. Vodafone/Telecom/Telstra directly. You may strike gold! Good luck, let me know if you need any more info.

I was lucky enough to have PR without needing a job offer, but I'm confident if you can overcome that hurdle you'll get a good job.

For Telecoms you can read ICT (Information Communications Technology) which is on the shortage list ........ or was earlier this year

All depends what you do and whether it fits the bracket
