The shippers will be here on Thursday, August 9th and we arrive in Auckland on Saturday, August 24th after a week in San Diego visiting my in-laws.
We started this process roughly two and half years ago and we're in the homestretch. I can't believe the time has finally come to make the big move. We're excited but nervous. Visions of damp, drafty houses fill my head at night. Yikes.
I hope to meet up with fellow forumites when we get there. Looks like Auckland will be our base and most likely where we'll stay but we'll be heading down to Wellington for a reccie.
I just want to say thank you to everyone on the forum for their helpful replies and support we needed it including some older members who are no longer active.
To all the newbies - welcome! I tend to lurk more than post but every now and then I slam the Introductions board with replies. To everyone selling a house - good luck, especially Ana.

congratulations! for someone like me, just starting the process, it's nice to hear about someone in the homestretch. although I've only been reading these posts for a week or so, and am *already* having visions of damp, drafty houses...
I used to live in NYC also. I loved it, and still miss it sometimes, even though it's not always easy to live there. Hope you'll have a good move to NZ.

Thanks all!
Maracuja, if I can help in any way just post or PM me. Friends from Raleigh and Apex are coming up this weekend to say goodbye to us and and to their free crash pad when they come to visit NYC. LOL!
Marie P - I'm hoping to catch the next Girls Night Out when I get there!

my family and i are in the same boat, started the process some time ago, and we are now just days away from our flight to Auckland.
Container left on the 12th so on bean bags and borrowed bits of furniture.
Move out of our house next Friday and spend the weekend with the inlaws before flying out from Heathrow on Tuesday 31st July.
Would like to thank all on this site for there help and reassurance over the last few months, hope to meet up when we are over there

I know! We certainly pushed it out as far as we could! Right now I have an e-mail out for a serviced apartment by the Wharf. I think everything is included (Internet, cable, heat, etc.) which makes it perhaps a bit more affordable than a bach or house where we'll have to pay extra for them. I think it'll make job hunting a bit easier for Greg if we're in the CBD and we'll probably be doing the touristy things when we get there. We'll then start exploring other areas like Howick, etc. to see where we want to settle.
If my logic is incorrect about the cost savings or if you have any suggestions I'd love to hear them. This by far is the most nerve-racking part of the move for me.

Scratch that idea. Saw a few rentals on trademe that looked interesting. Perhaps we'll do a week or two in a hotel or motel until we find something.
