I'm looking for a 1-bedroom apartment or other dwelling for two people/no pets in Auckland, but not sure what neighborhoods to look in. My job will be in Newmarket, near where Remuera Road intersects Broadway. I would like to walk or bike to work if possible- is this common in Auckland? We're young (26) professionals with a max budget of $325 per week. What areas would you recommend?
Thanks! :nice1

I put together a contour map of weekly rents for the central Auckland area, in case anyone is interested. I used aerial photos from Google Earth as the background, then overlayed contours of the median, median+1 standard deviation, and median minus one standard deviation weekly rent. I think it's helpful for people who aren't familiar with the city determine what areas the want to focus their housing search on. For me, Remuera is looking great based on this map :nice1 . Of course, the map is only as good as the underlying data :laugh . One other thing- the rent I used was for a 1 bedroom apartment. Where this number was not available, I used a 2 bedroom and made a note in that neighborhood's label. Even if this is not the type of housing you are looking for, it gives a general idea of what parts of the city are most expensive and affordable.

It's a 3 MB pdf file so I can't upload it, but if you want it PM me and I can email it to you.

mudlae - just a tip its normally not a good idea to post personal contact details on an open forum, using the PM system is usually better.

If you want it removed you can contact the admin and if you don't mind ....... its all good! :D

Cheers

Tia

Well, it's not common, just because most people live too far from where they work. But it's certainly not unusual. I live in Mt Eden and walk to work in Newmarket. I see plenty of other people walking & biking. (Unlike in America (small town), where random strangers would stop to offer me a ride because why would anyone possibly want to walk when they could drive? :roll)

Oregonkiwi, how long does that walk take you? I'm also thinking about Mt Eden and walking to work in Newmarket.
