Congestion / Parking etc...

I am hoping some of you out there can help me .. I am doing a college essasy on parking and congestion, and I have been given new Zealand to do and need a few tips from people out there.

My main questions are .. In the larger towns.cities of new zealand is car parking a problem and/expensive ? and it results in people parking illegally on private land (pubs/hotels) or just in the street ?

And if anyone knows how it is enforced (do they have the dreaded wheel clamping in new zealand / towing away etc..)

Mr project is to compare other countries to the problems experienced in the UK as car parks are getting full, finding a speace is difficult and this leads to people parking illegally.

I cant find any info on new zealand (lots on australia etc..) .. but not much use to me.

Thanks if anyone can give me pointers/help

Mike

There are no congestion charging in the capital and it is still relatively easy to find parking there.

I would say that parking / congestion isn't really much different from the UK relative to the size of the City i.e. if you compare the capital of NZ (Wellington) with the UK then NZ is clearly much better, but if you compare Wellington to a city in the UK with a similar sized population then they would probably be very similar.

Just so you know where to look for info, in NZ the main areas for parking / work in the Cities are called the Central Business District or CBD if you search for this term (+ parking) you will find articles covering this subject.

One thing I find about the car parks in Christchurch shopping malls is that the parking spaces seem to be a bit more generous on average than in the UK. Don’t know if that’s of any use to you – I don’t have any statistics- but I thought I’d mention it.
