Finally making a move back hm after 6yrs & have several cartons to send back. No Furniture, just loads of clothes, linen, frames, books, computer gear, kitchen/tableware, some kids toys, etc... stuff like that

The telly is prob the biggest item I'm taking back, I got a Pioneer 42' Plasma that I want to shift back hm, do you think its worth it?.

It should wk in nz(I hope), it has "PAL B/G, I", so should get the most out of it(?).

Compared to prices in NZ, there phenomenal!

Im gonna go with AngloPacific to ship my gear back hm, just wondering has anyone sent anything like an lcd/plasma back hm and arrived safely?

cheers

Hi, you don't say where you currently based, I assume that it is the UK in which case you won't have any problems.

For other countries with different mains voltage you may need to check out transformers etc.

As you say if you can select PAL B/G then it should work in NZ without any problems.

You don't say how you are planning to ship it, but in any case you could take out insurance on the TV.

BTW, prices of Flat Panel TV's are (finally) coming down in price in NZ.

And is it really a 42 foot screen - gonna cost in shipping :laugh

We're in a similar situation. We have a 32" lcd to ship and I had concerns about whether it would make the trip in one piece. But as one of my colleagues pointed out - so long as you have the box it came in, it has already travelled a long way from where it was made so there is a good chance it will survive another shipping so long as it is packed and handled okay.

Sorry I couldn't give anymore advice, but we're still to go through these things too. Its top of my list of things to bug the removal person about when they come to give a quote.

Hi, thanks for the quick replies

I'm in London right now, & since I'm not gonna shift any furniture/big appliances back hm, no point in a container.

I was gonna ship everything, door to door by Sea, through AngloPacific. Have a few mates use them and had no probs, but m8's never shifted any thing back like a big telly.

another thing is, I just bought the telly 6 weeks ago & been using it, so, I got a couple of months left before I head back hm & getting packers in 2 weeks.

Customs reckons :

"If you are a returning resident who has been absent from New Zealand for more than 21 consecutive months, you may import your personal effects (but not motor vehicles) free of duty and GST provided you are intending to take up permanent residence, and you have owned and used the goods before the date of your departure for New Zealand"

So do you reckon I'll be okay, even if the telly is not more than 6-12months old??

What other charges do you think customs might have me up for?

thanks

you have owned and used the goods before the date of your departure for New Zealand"

The quote says it all really.

There is no time period on how long you have owned and used the goods, other people on the forum have brought new goods, taken them out of the box and then shipped them without any problems.

You won't have any problems if you've used it for 6 months.

We brought our plasma and it traveled very well. We had special packing for it and, of course, it was insured as part of our 40' containerload. Can't be more specific as OH took full contorl of that bit!

We shipped our 42" plasma Tv, in our 40 footer, no special packing (ie not in a crate) Just breathable cover struff then card wrapped. It arrived here fine, In fact it was in storage here for a couple of months too!

We chose to not include it in our insurance as it was going really bump up the total, we declared on the insurance form that it was included in the shipment, but not covered as per our agreement with them on the insurance.

Just being nosy, how much is a plasma in the UK? I can't even remember the names of stores over there to google. (I'm having a brain freeze today!)

I've just been sent an offer for one over here that seems to good to resist...

Try this link for a good idea of Plasma TV prices in the UK Plasma (http://www.pricerunner.co.uk/cl/2/TVs?sort=5&a_13=Plasma)

Appears the cheapest one at the moment is £538 for 42"

If you want specific stores, how about Dixons, Currys, Comet, Martin Dawes and online Dabs or Amazon for a few?

Some price comparisons for Plasma TVs in NZ here
ferrit (http://www.ferrit.co.nz/42800.html)

Cheapest on Ferrit appears to be $2199 for 42" (but I suspect you may be able to get cheaper than this e.g. the Warehouse)

Shops that sell Plasma TVs include Harvey Norman, Noel Leeming, LV Martin, Bond + Bond, The Warehouse, Farmers for a few.

I just wanted to say that I was going to buy my plasma in Hill & Stewart (http://www.hillandstewart.co.nz/), but Retra Vision (http://www.retravision.co.nz) did a price match.

Don't forget to ask for those deals now...

hi, back again:)

my telly is the Koru - PDP-428XD" Pioneer, this is stinging me £1600 & I most prob wont see my telly back home, till the next few months. :wah

NZ don't get this telly till nov-dec 07, last years model, PDP-427XD is on sale for around $5500NZD:eek:.

So, can't imagine how much $$$$ the 428XD will be, when hits NZ shores.

Hoo-ray!:clap :clap

every thing finally got here in one piece, apart from a broken stem on 1 wine glass... I think I can live with that.:raebanana

Got my plasma and its all in tip-top condition and able to change the settings on it from I/PAL (UK) to B/G - PAL (NZ).... still...no eastenders... oh well:wah

Anyway, If investing in plasma from Uk and moving to NZ, make sure you at least find out that the plasma, can do B/G - PAL, as mentioned earlier in thread.

Thats what I would go for any telly to bring to NZ, most new models have this feature, but not all.

But, I do have freeview built into the Plasma, I can pick up nz channels, but all I get is a black screen, sound & name of channel (tvnz1, tvnz2,channel3, etc...)

Does anyone know, if theres a setting you need to get a visual as well? or is it just different format of freeview in NZ?

oh yea, don't throw the original packaging away & get a create made for it, about, 50 quid.

You can't use a UK Freeview to pick-up NZ Freeview they are the same in name only.

At the moment NZ Freeview is only via satellite so even if they were the same, it wouldn't work.

BTW, Eastenders is on 'Prime' but it's probably 9 months (or more) behind UK
