HI
As above really how do you apply for a work permit, when you get offred a job, is it the same as PR but they just give you a work permit until pr is approved?
Have a good one.

Hi
We applied for ours by sending my hubbys offer of employement and various other documents to Immigration in London. Normal time i think for turn around is 2-3 weeks, we luckily got ours through in 3 days! Marked ours as urgent as needed back in quick time frame.
We were going to apply once we got over here, but a) couldnt ship any of our stuff over without a visa and b) told the nearest office to us in Hastings is Palmerston North - a 2hr drive and obviously we didnt know the roads too well either.
We also did the 1yr visas as we were on tight time frame, so didnt have the time to go and sort medicals out, etc.
Once we got over here we applied for Expression of Interest - which we were selected from the pool immediately as hubbys work (joiner) is on shortage list. This took about 2-3 weeks and we currently have application for PR going through at moment - takes 3-6 mths so they advised. (Just been advised also that costs are going up here in NZ from $800 to $1400) - which is practically double!
Hope this helps and havent rambled on too much

The application for a work permit isn't as complex as PR. You only need a medical and police checks if applying for a certain period of time - I never completed a police check in almost 3 years of work permits, and only had a medical for the last one as they realised I'd been here for over 2 years without having had one yet...
I didn't apply for PR until I was positive that I actually wanted to stay. I was quite happy on my work permits.
