Hi there,
we are moving to Nelson in 5 weeks (gee it isnt long now!). Question about post tho. Is it possible to get a PO Box or something like it setup in NZ now so that we have somewhere to redirect our mail to?
ANy ideas on how this could be done
Thanks

Probably not an ideal solution but check out www.privatebox.co.nz
They offer a migration service for customers coming to and leaving NZ.

I'm probably pickier than most, but that website has a lot of spelling mistakes. Bad grammar on a website doesn't necessarily reflect on the company's ability to do its job, but I'd be cautious about letting someone handle your mail who hasn't even edited their mission statement. Then again, I noticed commercial spelling mistakes more often in NZ than I'm used to, so it might not mean anything. (Do you think there's a side job for me in product editing?)
uk_munroes, I'm interested in whatever options you come up with, as I'm in the same situation.

we set up a redirection with Royal Mail in UK to the motel we were going to stay in first. Once we had a rental, we rang the Royal Mail from here to change the address to which our mail was coming.

It was very straightforward and worked well.

The Royal Mail international redirect works well. I used it for about a year when I moved over and it was very cost effective. If you move locally, you can get NZ post to redirect your local mail too.

Here's an update....
Bascially, we called the Postshop, turned out the number is answered by some Customer Services Central call center. I explained what I wanted and they put me through to the person at the local post center who assigned me a PO number within minutes! Paying for it was a bit of a hassle, cos that had to be done through the customer services call center, who wanted proof of ID etc.
But a couple of faxes later and we are all set up!
So it seems it is possible, if you explain clearly why you cannot come in in person to set up the PO box :-)

Glad you you got your mail box sorted. We have redirection from the Uk to NZ through Royal Mail and its been OK. We have renewed it twice now and you can do it all on line. It costs roughly £35.00 for a 3 month redirection.
