Not sure if you're familiar with google earth, but it's a pretty amazing program. that lets you zoom around the globe with a virtual 3D view. (http://earth.google.com/ ).

Recently, they did a 'mash-up' of google earth technology with photo uploading from a company called Panoramio. The result is now being able to view the precise locations that the photos were taken. Sorta neat way of exploring around. Here's an example of what that looks like through their webinterface, having searched for 'Castlepoint'.

http://www.panoramio.com/map/#lt=-40.900000&ln=176.216667&z=5&k=2&a=1&tab=1

So if you want to be famous on google earth, upload your photos on panoramio (you have to create an account). Perhaps forum members should tag them with 'enz' so we know we can easily browser forum member pics?

Otherwise, browse around the country for your next destination.

:cheers

having recently got into digital photography, I started using Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/crispyking) for photo sharing. I did sign up to panoramio but didn't really use it much as flickr seemed to be more popular. When uploading to flickr, it either takes the GPS data from photos or shots can be added to maps manually, this is the NZ map - http://www.flickr.com/map/?&fLat=-41.928583&fLon=168.843383&zl=12

also (slightly off topic but still) interesting is flickrvision, showing global posting to flickr (practically) as it happens !!

Flickrvision thing is very cool indeed. Thanks for the link!

Hopefully the need for panoramio accounts goes away in the next year, or so, and then can just use Picasaweb/picasa
(https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLogin?hl=en_US&continue=http%3A%2F%2Fpicasaweb.google.com%2Flh%2F login%3Fcontinue%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Fpicasaweb.go ogle.com%252F&service=lh2&passive=true and / or http://picasa.google.com/) .

Would have to agree that Flickr probably the most popular at the moment, but wish it worked with Google earth.
