Hi,

We are in the middle of our research and are considering locations. I will be looking for employment in the Architectural / Construction Design field as either a Architecutral Technician (CAD) or Design Manager. I was wondering if there are any locations where these jobs were more common or if it is similar to the UK where there is a fairly even spread?

Also are there any employment agencies which focus on this type of profession?

At present we favour the South Island, in particualr Queenstown or Nelson, however the right job will direct our choice.

Any advice welcomed.

Thanks James

Hi James sc.
I am an architectural interior designer and working on my master in Landscape architecture in California.
NZ has a professional website for architects, but also there is plenty of Ad’s on jobs websites.
Try to get a job with international company, because they pay better.
RobLaw and Hays are major employment agents around the big cities..

Best wishes!

Anna

Hi there James,

Not sure if I can help, but I know an architect who works in Auckland and the company has an office in Christchurch and (I've just had a look on the website) Queenstown. PM me if you would like his details.

Good luck though and all the best.

Hi I'm an architectural technologist here in uk (gone chartered now) and looking to relocate to nz within 2 years. Be interested in same thread comments regarding hotspots. Have been interviewed by Rob Law Associates here in london on recent recruitment drive and they seem well up to speed. Have expressed an interest in New Plymouth (petro-chem industry area) and various other NI areas. Not really city more rural small town practice. Hope to visit NZ for pre recce in october november for a few weeks so any comments appreciated. Regards desperately wannabe nz

Ok, I am an ex architectural technician that has been doing architectural 3d rendering for the past ten years, working for myself with clients around the country (South Africa) and some abroad.
I would be looking to find employment in NZ next year, thus if anyone knows any architects, looking for 3d artists, or any info regarding the work environment in this field, let me know.

Hi there guys and girls,

There is a NZ Institute of Architects (http://www.nzia.co.nz). Not sure if it'll help though.

It may be worth dropping them an email..

Good luck guys.
