My work-to-residence (talent policy) visa was approved Friday, only 48 hours after the application was received in Ottawa. I was expecting a wait of up to 3 weeks. As a result, I had to scramble together a plane ticket...and get ready to go.
Arriving in Auckland on August 10....wow.

That's great John! you must be very talented :)
seriously what does a talent visa allow you to do? is that for film, acting, etc, or does it include things like sport?
I will be heading up to Victoria for a few weeks visit, so will be heading out just after you arrive, but let me know if there is anything we can do to help with your first few days.
time for a few of these. :raebanana :raebanana :raebanana

:) There is a section in the talent visa documents about that sort of skill (singer, dancer), but I'm in engineering, therefore WR1 visa.
Work To Residence (WTR)
The most desirable work visa is the Work to Residence Visa.
If you can get one, qualifying for permanent residence is straightforward. All you need to do is work in NZ for two years.
There are three main ways for job-seekers to obtain WTR;
WR1 Talent (Accredited Employers)
WR2 Talent (Arts, Culture and Sports)
WR3 Long Term Skill Shortage List.
All allow you to work in New Zealand for 30 months. They are multiple entry visas so you may enter and leave New Zealand as often as you wish.
Getting a Talent Visa
The two talent visas are similar.
For most people interested in moving to New Zealand, the WR1 - accredited employer route - will be more useful.
For both types of talent visa you must be aged less than 56 years and have found an employer (WR1) or organisation of national repute (WR2) that wishes to make use of your talents in New Zealand.
Additionally, for WR2 Talent (Arts, Culture and Sports) you need to have exceptional talent in your field, be prominent in your field and satisfy the immigration service that your presence in New Zealand will enhance the quality of New Zealand's accomplishments in your field.

Blue sticker on my passport arrived today...:raebanana :raebanana :raebanana :raebanana
What started as a bit of a lark during school has come to fruition (in this case...bananas) very quickly....I am going to have to get mentally ready for the move in 2.5 weeks.
Leaving behind everyone you care about is troubling, but the world gets smaller and smaller with the perfection of internet communications and the knowledge that everyone is a just a day's travel away...I hope the adjustment will be quick.

NZ does have a long-term shortage of moose.
Congratulations! Have another handful of bananas...
