Having read the threads on here about LCD v Plasma TVs, the one common piece of advice seems to be that you need to view a few sets and make your mind up on personal preference for the displayed picture. To this end, does anyone know of good shops in Auckland (North Shore preferably)? A good range on show is a must, knowledgeable sales staff a secondary consideration.

Cheers,

Try the Harvey Normans in Wairau Park. They may not be the best price wise, but they've got a decent sized showroom so you can get a good comparison.

There's a Bose shop on Lake road in Takapuna that has a few LCDs and Plasmas on display - and it's a bit far, but for comparing Sony screens, there's a Sony shop in Newmarket.

I actually bought my Philips flat panel at the Bose shop as, remarkably, it was a really good deal at the time. They were very nice. They delivered it, set it up and removed the rubbish.

Range from $2400 upwards for a 42" plasma.

See ferrit (http://www.ferrit.co.nz/?ObjectID=42800&PageSize=10&OrderBy=GroupMinPrice&OrderDesc=0) for some comparisons.

So not as cheap as the UK, but at least the prices are coming down now.

All I would say is shop around when you know what model you want - I got ours from the local Newbolds (www.100yes.co.nz), although I played them off against the big Harvey Norman in Wellington and saved just over $1k on a $4k Plasma

Dick Smiths do entry-level 42" Plasmas from $2k if you're not too worried about brand!
