Hi everyone,

Can anyone help? I had PND after the birth of both of my children. I didn't take any time off work, all is fully resolved now and has been for 4 years........my question is, "Do I need to put this on the EOI or just declare at the medical if we receive ITA?

Has anyone had depression? Did you put it on your EOI or leave it until the medical? Or.......?

I would love to hear from anyone who has been through this, especially if you're now in NZ with PR!!!

If you would rather, PM me if you don't want to reply to the post.

All help will be very gratefully received.

Thanks

Helen

Do they ask about PND or depression on the EOI? If not, leave it until it comes up on your medical form.

At that point, if there's a space for "History of Depression", fill it out but be sure to have your doctor/medical examiner note that it was ONLY in the post-partum period and has been resolved, without recurrence or need for continued medication, for four years.

I believe there are many on this list who have a need for ongoing antidepressants who have gotten PR without a hitch.

(I'm an adoptive parent so I myself haven't experienced PND but it appears NZIS is very generous with accepting that we all come housed in these vessels that sometimes don't function quite up to speed - they really do seem to look at the bigger picture at what you/your family has to offer the country)

BTW, thanks for being open about your experience - it's only thru this open sharing that makes it easier for women in a similar boat after giving birth to seek the help they need!

Thanks for the reply. I have no difficulty in being open and honest about PND. I don't feel ashamed as thousands of women suffer from it every year. Sadly many feel so ashamed that they aren't able to seek help, which is a tragic situation.

As for the EOI it does ask if you have, or have had any "Psychiatric condition". I don't want to not get selected because of it. I know I can't lie but was just wondering what others had done.

Thanks again

Helen

Just in case anyone's interested, I have discussed this with my GP this morning who suggested that I take, "psychiatric condition", on the EOI to mean schizophrenia, bipolar disorder etc. and so the answer is "No".

Obviously the medical specifically asks about depression and for this he will provide evidence that my condition was Post Natal & resolved and that I have been clear for 4 years.

So if anyone is in the same situation then I hope this has helped you too.

regards

Helen

I had PND but did not put it down on the form as it has not been an ongoing condition. I also took it to me a more serious type of depression requiring ongoing treatment.
