I've just seen an article in our local paper relating to the international experiences of New Zealanders Working Abroad. It's been prepared by Kaye Thorn, Lecturer in Management, Massey University (Auckland). I found the results interesting, as perhaps they're a reversal of why many of us are considering or came to New Zealand...

Career 21.63
Cultural and Travel Opportunities 23.23
Economic 17.77
Political Environment 2.77
Quality of Life 8.43
Relationships 13.69

The link is here (http://tur-www1.massey.ac.nz/~kthorn/index.php)

Any thoughts?

Very interesting indeed! For me at least, I would agree that the reasons are a "reversal" of my reasons for going to NZ.

I'm not sure if I agree or not...based on what reversal means...

I think the last reason to go to NZ would be career...I could make 20-30% more money going to Australia (even with the exchange). I'm seeking a increased quality of life, and an adventure in a naturally beautiful place. By quality of life, I mean mountain biking and fly-fishing...not big houses and flash cars.

Cultural opportunities is a relative expression....young Canadians want to flee Canada, young Kiwis want to flee NZ....everywhere else is cool.

This is what I think the OP meant by "reversal". One of the main reasons that the Kiwis gave for going to another country was career. So by "reversal", that would be one of the last reasons someone would want to go to New Zealand.

Another example... Less than 3 percent of the Kiwis going elsewhere gave "Political Environment" as a reason they went somewhere else. I.e. this is one of the last reasons they went somewhere else. But, I think for many people going to New Zealand, that is one of the primary reasons they would go to New Zealand. (Think of people who live in the US but aren't happy with what the US is doing.)

Anyway, that's the way I understood the OP's posting.
