Dunno what's happened, user error I think... anyway, I see that the World Rally Championship is coming to NZ between 31 August to 2 September. Lucky OH I hear you say.

It'll be roaring through the famously green countryside in the greater Waikato region. With racing on Friday 31 August in the Pirongia and Waitomo regions, spectators will become acquainted with the tree-clad volcanic mountains as they watch the world’s best rally drivers race by...

So who's been before, is it any good? Best spots? Any advice?

Actually, I've found http://www.rallynz.org.nz, but does anyone have any practical advice?

Well, the OH and I went to Raglan on Sunday (sorry guys in Hamilton we didn't have time to pop in) to watch the Third Leg of Rally NZ.

It was a top day out. We did get collared for the $40 ($20 each) entrance fee, although we'd been told you can park up and tramp across a field. It seems that the organisers had got wise to this and there was only one road in and out of the Leg, but we didn't mind, as it was well worth it, and some of the money goes to good causes. If you have kids under 15, they go free, so for a family (sort of) day out, and dad wants to take two kids out, then it is good value for money.

Everyone had told us it would be busy, but we had no problem at all. There are car parks (for an additional $2), but we, like some many other people, just parked on the side of the road.

We made it down for the third stage of the day, and then the fifth (repeat of stage two) and back to the sixth (repeat of stage three), so we caught plenty of action. To be honest, if we'd got up in time, we'd have gone to the second stage, then off to the fourth (repeat of the first) and then the sixth (repeat of the third), and then we'd have seen all of the stages. There was a final stage at Mystery Creek, but that was another $15, and as we'd got our money's worth, we came home.

There was no chance of getting lost, as we just followed everyone else. Overall, it was a grand day out, and even the OH said that she had a good time.

Last piece of advice, take a picnic and a flask of tea and here's some photos...

Was trying to hook up for the Sunday too, but just didn't manage to make it. Got a good eye full of the vehicles, as they were passing through Te Awamutu all day long on the Friday. Also managed to get caught up with the reccie cars coming out of Honikiwi Road just outside Otorohanga on a delivery. Quite strange actually as all reccie cars were plated up on English plates. Wierd looking at an english rego plate 12000 miles away.

Is the Citroen pic of Loeb:confused:

I think so - I think it's car 1, which was the number of Loeb. The other Citroen was 2. The Ford is Groholm's for sure.

On the way back we were overtaken by a Subaru and Ford. We've got a nice picture of the back of the Ford, but the OH was too slow in taking a picture of the Scooby. :roll
