Hi

Myself and my parnter Steve have come over to NZ on 2 year work visa's, Steve has the job so I get an open work visa. My questions are: my passport runs out in eighteen months time, as does the visa, by this time we will have residency, what do I do about a new passport? I read somewhere that your passport is stamped with residency like the visas. What happens then with my new passport? I assume I have to apply to the UK for a new passport, if so it will not have the residency stamp in, do I keep the old passport to prove I have residency or do I send my new passport to who-ever to get the residency stamp put in?

Hope someone can help :yes

When you apply for a new passport I think you have to send your old one along with your application (can't swear to this though). Do you have to send your passport back to the UK to get it renewed. PB's NZ passport expired over here and he applied for a new one here in the UK. I would imagine it can be done 'the other way round'.

I know that any visas that are still valid will be transferred to your new passport.

My advice to you would be to pop into your nearest NZIS office and have a chat with them. They'll be able to put you straight as I'm sure they will have dealt with situations like this hundreds of times. The last thing you need is to get 'caught out' and have all your visas and passport expire on you.

Good luck

Not sure about the visa thingy as I have yet to get there but I know you can renew your UK passports at the British High Commission in New Zealand. My boss here in Indonesia is a British citizen and he renewed his passport at the British Embassy in Jakarta, so I know it can be done. I too can renew my Malaysian passport at any Malaysian Embassy worldwide. I think it also applies to other countries.

Cheers,
