Hello everyone! What a fab forum. I can only hope I get as much info from it as people appear to!!
In a nutshell - am I thinkging of doing the right thing? I am 36, married with 3 little ones (7,5 and 3) and am desperate to get a better life for us and them! One with less crime, drugs, dis-respect, no dodgy 'PC gone mad government' and a least a slim chance of my kids owning their own house one day!!
I understand the wages are considerably less in NZ but I would like to hear that it is a case of no - we won't necessarily be any better off financially, but at least we won't have to work as many hours to be in the same/similar financial situation as we are here?? (Does that make sense?)
The next question - do we really have a cat in hell's chance of getting into NZ as my hubby and I do not have any skills/qualifications that are always on the in demand lists - but we have got many years experience and are extremely successful in the jobs we do have here in the UK! Has anyone who hasn't been to Uni or got letters after their name actually managed to get in somehow and have a successful future?
Any help on these matters would be so greatfully received!!

Welcome to the forum Nachajo.

NZ immigration is tough to keep out those that they do not want.

I will not beat around the bush but without qualifications it will make entry into NZ harder but it is not impossible. What you do need is job offers which are difficult to get when you are not in the country.

It all depends on what risks you are willing or able to take and whether any of your experience can help you get the jobs you want.

Good luck

Hi,

Its really difficult to answer your questions,as we dont know what jobs you do now?...its difficult to guage how NZ would compare to NZ for you fiancially, as everyones financial situation is different. I do agree with Speckytheckys comments above about NZ immigration, but then I have always lived by where theres a will, theres a way!! It depends how much you want it, a lot of people on this forum have sacrificed quite a lot to go, either family wise, career wise, monetry wise and probably lots lots more, and in a lot of cases its all been worth it.

Have you or your husband thought about gaining a qualification to go with your wealth of experience?? That may be an avenue to go down...although they may want 'post qualification' experience...is there anyone you know in New Zealand? Family? Have you been looking at any New Zealand Jobs to see if your experience is enough in your career...like Speckythecky says, a job offer would be the best bet.

Good Luck with it all, whatever you decide.

J x

To answer your question honestly we need to know:

what your work is and how much experience you have
how much hard cash you'd have to bring to NZ

:)

Hi Lupin

Our work experience is in the airline/travel industry. My hubby has worked for British Airways for 20 years and is a Ramp Supervisor (including signing off a legal document every time a flight departs) and I have roughly 12 years experience also. I have ticketing experience and also have British Airways Fares I & II (which is a good, recognised qualification to have in the airline industry.) A lot of my work was sales related and I therefore have a proven sales record. I have seen several jobs suitable to myself browsing the New Zealand Herald. But I can't help asking myself "why would they entertain me when there's probably 100's of suitable candidates who are residents of NZ??"

We have always worked hard and earned a reasonable sum and would obviously both be prepared to work hard in NZ.

I would estimate at around £150,000 (pounds sterling) as a figure of hard cash we would be able to bring into NZ.

Hope this will help you give me more answers - thanks!

Well, you have a good start with the capital you'll bring. I also think that with so many years experience in your jobs, it's sounding very positive. Have you thought about applying for some of the jobs you've seen, to see what reaction you get? A friend of mine was in your position, a manager of a shop in the UK and he managed to secure a job from the UK. This was the only way he could get to NZ. It has been done by many before you, so stay positive. Good luck. :nice1

Well your capital is sorted! :nice1 If you pick your area wisely and don't have grand house plans you could be mortgage free or at least have a minimal mortgage here.

I'm no expert but perhaps you should explore working visas ... plenty of peeps have got here on that route. Have a search on this forum or put another request up with a title of 'work visa' or soemthing to flush out those that made it here by that route.
