Am sure someone who lives there now can answer better than me eg Sharon Thomas recently moved there from Uk, but what we saw on our reccy was all very nice. Napier had lovely feel to the town; very friendly, easy to park; only downside is not being able to swim from the town beach and it's quite a drive to Ocean beach. I was quite surprised how flat it was and suburbs larger than had expected. Met a group of mums with young kids in lovely park on edge of Greenmeadows/Taradale (I think), who all raved about living there.

I'm in Hawkes Bay and pop to Napier quite often. Bay view is quite gorgeous despite the sea not being swimable in. Napier as a city is lovely, small enough to feel manageable yet large enough to provide what you want. People seem to favour the Taradale or Greenmeadows areas of NApier or nearby Havelock North. The climate is stunning :)
